France faces potential political deadlock after far-right parties make major gains

Results as officially announced by the newly-elected European Parliament

PARIS, July 7 (Reuters) - France faced potential political deadlock on Sunday after elections threw up a hung parliament, with far-right parties making major gains and President Emmanuel Macron losing his majority in the National Assembly.

Results from the newly-elected European Parliament showed the far-right National Rally (RN) party led by Marine Le Pen coming out on top in France with 32% of the vote, up from 23% in the previous elections in 2019.
