Mark Meadows Testifies in Federal Courtroom
Federal Appeals Court to Consider Charges Against Former White House Chief of Staff
Meadows Faces Obstruction Charges
In a federal courtroom in Atlanta last month, Mark Meadows, former President Donald Trump's final chief of staff, testified in a case related to the 2020 presidential election.
Meadows is accused of obstructing Congress by refusing to cooperate with a subpoena issued by the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th Capitol riot.
The prosecution argues that Meadows's failure to comply with the subpoena is a crime, while Meadows's defense team maintains that he acted on the advice of legal counsel and does not believe he is required to answer questions from the committee.
A federal appeals court is expected to consider Friday whether to uphold the lower court's ruling that Meadows must cooperate with the subpoena.
If the appeals court upholds the ruling, Meadows could face significant consequences, including jail time.
